Excellent
Date: February 21, 2010
This phone is lovely to use and seems to be able to do anything I ask of it! Email, web browsing, e-books, games PLUS a good phone too (text, calls). A bargain at £25 a month, compared to iPhone prices.
The only thing I'm having problems with this is the soft keyboard, but this is surely common to all smart phones, and is getting better the more I use it.

Outstanding value
Date: February 13, 2010
I have had my Magic for 2 months and can strongly recommend it. To me, it is the perfect size for a smart phone since it is small enough to carry comfortably in a shirt pocket whilst the screen is big and clear enough for all display purposes. As a longtime Vodafone customer I got a £20 per month contract and at that level the Magic is outstanding value. The synchronisation with Google calendar and contacts is faultless (why would you get an Android phone if you didn't have a Google identity?). The PDA type functions are very good and have enabled me to dispense with my Palm Tungsten (the main reason for getting a smart phone). Web browsing is very good and the GPS function with Google Maps is outstanding. There are lots of good apps from Google Market. All in all this phone does almost everything you could want in a portable electronic device BUT... it does has some shortcomings: No radio, very poor camera and no Bluetooth file transfer (although the hands free function works perfectly in my car). I really miss not being able to use BBC iPlayer (no Flash function in Android) and not being able to save the images from MMS messages. However, given the price level of the phone these shortcomings are acceptable. I certainly wouldn't pay another £15 per month for them.

Best upgrade for money
Date: February 8, 2010
I've always wanted a HTC android phone for so long.
At first, I was thinking about getting the HTC Tattoo, but after seeing review about Tattoo resolution restriction, I decided to get the HTC Magic.
£60 upgrade for £20 a month (12m contract) is a steal! - 600 mins + unlimited text + unlimited internet
You Get GPS, Wifi, 3G, HSDPA, Camera, an micro SD Card.
If you managed to upgrade HTC Magic to Android 1.6 Rom with a bit of help in Youtube, this phone is even better. You can download even more apps with Android 1.6 instead of 1.5 that comes with the phone.
Amazingly, if you fancy a bit DIY, you can upgrade this phone with a HTC Hero Rom. The HTC Hero Rom runs very smoothly on the HTC Magic phone with a decent class 6 micro SD Card.
Get this phone while you can, Vodafone doesn't seem to stock them any more.

Great looks and easy to use, but.......
Date: February 3, 2010
Great looking phone, very stylish. Already having an ipod touch did not really need an iphone so went for this. Very easy to use, really neat size too. Great features, only thing missing is blue tooth (other than voice). Only downside I am finding is battery life. Nowhere near the hours expected. Only have done a couple of quick calls, some texts and a tiny bit of internet, switched it off at night and already needs charging after 4 days! Maybe I am missing something. Also internet not as fast as iphone.
Having said all that nothing compares to this phone!

HTC Magic - Better than the iPhone!!!
Date: January 26, 2010
HI, I've had this phone now for just under a week and love it already. It is so simple and easy to use, with so many advance features. The Google suite of applications is just amazing - all I had to do was to put in my Google Account log in details, and within minutes all of my email, calendar info, contacts and other saved info on my Google Account were synced to my phone. And because it syncs with your Google Account, you can add all of your contacts online through your computer, which is easier, quicker and simpler if you have a lot of them, in one evening and as you add them to your account online, they're on your phone within SECONDS!!! It is a really quick phone and I would have it over an iPhone any day, not because it's cheaper, but it is just so much better! The Facebook is really good and the whole phone is great. You can really customise your homescreen and you put as much on them (there are 3) as you like, unlike some Samsung phones where you can only have a certain number of shortcuts or widgets on the screen at one time.
I honestly do recommend this phone to anyone - it really is great. Please ignore all the reviews about battery life, it is great as long as you overcharge it and give it topup charges (which is what the Vodafone eForum says to do as the battery life gets better if you charge it overnight and top it up as and when you can), and you won't go wrong with it. The pouch it comes with is really great, and the Android Market is fantastic with everything you could need, and most of it is free.
GET THIS PHONE!!! Believe me, you won't regret it!

Great phone
Date: January 22, 2010
I have had this phone for 9 months now and i love it. As others have said battery needs charging daily, but unlike an Iphone you can take a spare battery if you anticipate heavy use and no access to a charge. The integration with Google is fantastic. Brilliant diary and gmail manipulation v easy. I find the camera excellent. Video camera not quite so good. Bluetooth works fine with car kits, incl downloading phonebook onto a parrot. Apps are great. The only major complaint I have is the lack of a 3,5mm earphone socket. You have to buy a little converter to plug into the USB charging socket. POOR DESIGN

Glad I went for this
Date: January 22, 2010
Wanted a phone that was good for browsing the internet but wasn't prepared to pay for an iPhone.
Been really pleased with this phone. Easy to use.
Browsing on the internet is good. Able to zoom in and out of pages. Quick to scroll up and down pages by flicking-
The predict text is very good for texting. If you miss hit a letter it will still suggest words with the letter you meant to press.
Text messages are stored as threads so you can easily keep track of conversations.
Only thing that lets it down is the poor camera. I've had 2 sony ericcsons in the past with brilliant camera features.
Battery life is fine, providing I do not over use the internet. Turning off the bluetooth and the wireless features definately helps. But it doesn't take too long to recharge if the battery gets low.

I was a ittle at sea with this upgrade, I had really hankered for an iphone, and hadnt heard much about the magic. It is a magic phone tho, the smaller size suits a pocket better than the iphone for a start, The screen is great, gets to google and your contacts, calendar, and emails in a flash. The keyboard is tighter to use unless you turn the phone sideways, and my impression is that the camera is quite as good as the iphone's, but all in I wouldnt trade, and look forward to owning the newest Googlephone in time.

HTC (no so magic) magic
Date: December 16, 2009
Where do you start, this pone is a massive disappointment, even the simplest takes like texting groups are beyond the units abilities, The calendar application can not be used use you sign up to google, you can runn the email on its own but it will re-writre your PC junk mail settings. Bottom of the screen is unresponsive. You can not get on to the andriod market useless you sign up for a google account. Its linux based unit which won,t work with linux OS how weird is that.
Quite simply this is on its way back, cant live it massively disappoints, and what even worse can,t use flash so BBC i player function. All style over substance this one.

This phone really is amazing.
Easy to use, love the android software, there are loads of apps available, texting is good, call quality is good, really impressed with it had it a week and haven't needed to consult the instructions...
Best phone i've tried and the screen is bigger than it says in the description think its 3.5" not 2.8" as mentioned...

The Magic isn't perfect by any means...The battery life "out of the box" is shockingly poor, the 3G signal pickup isn't outstanding, the camera is very poor nad the speaker for the alarm and rings is in the back of the phone....
That means if you set the alarm and want to hear it go off, you need to balance the phone on its' edge or lay it on its' front!
Also the lack of flash support is infuriating.
Having said all that, the call quality and reception is excellent, the touch screen is similarly good and the weight and styling (other than the white case) is pretty good.
The battery life can be extended to be just about OK by turning off anything that isn't being used (or using an app to do it for you) and by limiting the amount of time you use web pages in low signal areas...
I'd like to see more than 3 home screens (or smaller icons/higher screen definition), native flash support and better pick-up and handling of 3G (and WiFi, although that isn't as bad).
The on-screen keyboard could be better, but it isn't unuseable even for someone with big paws like me!
It would also be nice if a 3.5mm audio output was included, but again it isn't so bad when for £5 you can get a little adaptor (not from Vodafone, though).
The last point is that the Bluetooth audio gain is only barely adequate...However, this seems to be a trend on new phones adn I can't see why it is the case...
At least you can alter the output gain using the volume control of the handset, unlike some other handsets!
The Magic is nearly great...At the moment I'd say it aspires to greatness but falls a little short of the final step...

I've had this phone now less then a day yes its not very long but even so its an amazing phone best I've ever been on my partner has the iphone and has done for about a year so I'm used that but the htc is faster, more user friendly, better looking and all the Apps even good ones seem to be free. I would recomend to anyone looking for a quick good looking smart phone. The one thing better for it would be if you could save Apps to microsd but it deffinatly compinsates for it. I even left this review on it!

best phone i have ever had
Date: December 6, 2009
this phone is brilliant all round and recommend it to anyone who wants a good phone, and ease of use but with lots of accessories to go with it, it is also very reliable, haven't had a problem in the whole time that i have had the phone and that is coming up to 6 1/2 months, where as previous phones have all had faults within the first 4 months of use, it is a spectacular phone, u should get one of these or a htc, since i got my phone, people who have gone to upgrade theres recently have went for the upgrade of this phone or a htc just because there good, strong build and reliability, i hope that u make the same decision for a stress free phonee

I love this phone
Date: December 5, 2009
I've had numerous phones since my Pebble broke, but didn't like any of them. This phone is GREAT!!! It does everything that the iPhone does as far as I can tell (from looking at friends) and is cheaper. I love the music and podcast features, it's got a free download for a spoken GPS, I love the Google maps, the internet is easy, I've got the compass on it. The battery life is good. It's just brilliant. Well done Google for the Android operating system.
