I received the Nokia E72 this morning. After reading many reviews I was anxious to get my hands on it and see what it could do. I was also interested to see how it compared to the iphone (which I previously owned).
First up, the design and handling of the phone is very good. It feels sturdier and more durable than the iphone in your hands. I also like the qwerty keypad, which takes some getting used to, but after a couple of hours you should be fine!
The internet connectivity speed is good on vodafone but the handset is incomparable to the iphone when it comes to internet browsing. Still, push email is decent and I can view just about everything i need to for work and a bit of amusement! The good old laptop or computer is still the boss for web browsing and will be for some time no matter what phone you have. The infrastructure for good mobile internet browsing is simply not out there at the moment in my opinion.
Camera quality, editing, uploading capabilities are excellent and all you need for capturing quality images or uploading facebook/twit - pics. THE E72 NEEDS A GOOD TWITTER APP THOUGH!
Document (word, excel, pdf, etc) editing is great and will save me time over the coming months I'm sure.
The maps are also very intuitive and speedy but the phone should not be advertised as coming "with a compass". As a planner and architect I need a good compass on me most of the time. I was hoping the E72 would replace my trusty plastic compass but sadly the E72 "compass" facility is, I feel, unreliable.
All in all I am happy with it. Simply put - in a bewildering mobile phone market it's good to have an up to date phone I feel I can rely on and the E72 feels like it is just that. After a day of messing around with the settings I can just about call it MY phone...
